Special Minister of the Eucharist
My thanks to those special ministers who have expressed a willingness to take communion to the sick and housebound and to those who are happy to lead Eucharistic Services. I am drawing up a list of special ministers to take communion to the housebound . By the end of next week I should have asked all the sick and housebound if they would like a minister and be able to let special ministers know which of those of the sick and housebound I would like them to visit. I will also be contacting in September those special minister who would like some training to lead Eucharistic Services .
Baptism
Today we welcome Jack William Morton into God’s family in baptism. We are asked to pray for Jack, his parents, and all preparing for baptism.
Catechists in the Parish
My thanks to those who have offered to help with either the First Holy Communion or the baptismal programme. Any further offers of help in this important area of parish life would be most appreciated.
Parish Youth Forum
For those who did not see the bulletin last week the first meeting of the parish youth forum agreed two things in the life of the parish. One was to look at the use of drama for portraying some of the gospel stories, the second was to work with other parishioners in decorating the hall. If any other young people are interested in this please contact me.
End of Academic Year
Enjoy your holidays. May the good weather continue, I’m sure that’s a prayer we all have!
Liturgy Rotas
If you are involved in the liturgy please take a copy of the new rota which is available in the Narthex today.
Day for Life
Next Sunday is Day for Life when we are asked to acknowledge the sanctity of human life from its beginning to the end and with everything in between. The leaflet available quotes Pope Francis while he was the Archbishop of Buenos Aries “Caring for life from the beginning to the end. What a simple thing, what a beautiful thing …” So, go forth and do not be discouraged. Care for life. It’s worth it!”
There will be a retiring collection for Day for Life next weekend.
Carmelites
There will be a Carmelite meeting today. All are welcome.
Needing a hospital chaplain to make a visit?
The chaplains in hospitals can only visit a patient if it is brought to their attention. They cannot look at patient’s records to discover if you are a Catholic. If you have a relative or friend in Wansbeck Hospital please contact the Catholic chaplain, Irene Harwood, at the hospital on 01670 521212 or via Fr Stephen Watson on 01670 812200. If your relative or friend is in another hospital in the region please let me know and I will contact the respective chaplain for you.

· Annual walk for Blessed John Ingram Sunday 28th July, meeting at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Newgate Street, Newcastle, 2.45 pm start then to St Edmund’s Chapel, High Street, Gateshead for an ecumenical service followed by refreshments. (non-walkers please met at St Edmund’s at 3.30 pm)
My Conference
Just to let you know that I enjoyed the conference on Theology at York this week. The theme of the conference was ‘Being Human, Being Wise’ where we looked at different understandings of wisdom. I went to seven different lectures, seminars and workshops, which ranged from ‘Leadership in Catholic schools’ , ‘Burnout in Priests’, ‘Faith and Ecology in a Post-Industrial Setting’ and ‘Art as a Conversation Partner with Theology’. No doubt you will hear references to these and other parts of the conference as well as the many informal conversations one has at a conference.
My own short paper went well, my thanks to those parishioners who offered encouragement and advice.
The conference is ecumenical and what became clear in many conversations is that the respect and hope for Pope Francis goes well beyond those within the Catholic Church
