Baptism of the Lord
As you will see the Christmas decorations are still up.  This is because we are still celebrating the second major theme of Christmas which is Epiphany.  Today the church remembers when Christ was revealed in his public ministry through his baptism by John.  Today’s feast reminds us that we are called to follow Christ in his ministry and that our own baptism is the gateway to sharing in the life of the Trinity.

First Holy Communion Liturgy
This weekend at the 10.00am Mass will see the next Liturgy for the First Holy Communion Programme. The theme will be ‘Listening to God’s Word’. Please continue to pray for our Children who will be making their First Holy Communion later this year.

Visit of Youth Ministry Team to Deanery
In December of t6his year the diocesan Youth Mission Team will be leading a mission week in St Benet Biscop’s School.   The preparations have already begun for this.  The YMT wish to establish a coordinating team with members from all the parishes in the deanery.  The first meeting of this team will be on Thursday 23rd January at 7.00 pm here at St Bede’s.
Please keep  this mission in your prayers.

Baptismal Catechesis in the Parish
As part of the preparations the parish needs to  do for a time when there is not  a full time priest here in the parish , this year will see the introduction of a Baptismal Catechetical Programme lead by lay people. My thanks to Christine Priest and Alison Johnson who are willing to do this work for the  parish and thanks also to John O’Neill who has been assisting them in the training for this role.
The baptismal programme will run four times a year, with parents  being required to come to two evening sessions before their child’s baptism and one afterwards.
The dates of the baptismal programme over the next 12  months are on the notice board and on a separate sheet for people to take away. With there being four programmes over the year and seeking to encourage a community aspect to  baptisms you will see that Baptisms will take place over eight days during the year covering four week-ends. This will mean that  long term planning for baptisms will be important
If parents wish  to take part in earlier sessions and then have your child baptised and take part in the final session at a later point you are welcome to do so. Parents are also welcome, if they so wish, to be involved in the first two sessions of programme  before their child is born. If any member of  your family or friends are intending to have a child baptised this year please pass on this information to them as soon as possible. Please contact me if you any queries about this

Christmas Decorations
The Christmas season finishes this weekend so help taking down the decorations after 10.00 am will be much appreciated.

Journey of Faith
The journey of faith programme has resumed. We will be exploring Sacraments over the next few weeks. Please pray for our four enquirers who hope to join the church at Easter– Jamie  & Harrison Belizzi (siblings) Jon  & Sarah Warwick (spouses)

Word Youth Day 2016
It has been agreed by the parish council that we seek to explore the possibility of taking a group of young people in the parish to the next Papal World Youth  Day in August 2016. We have plenty of time to prepare for this but if we are to fund raised and encourage our young people to take part then we need to start preparing as soon as possible. There will be an initial meeting for anyone who would like to be involved  be that taking part in the trip or raising funds to subsidise our young people to take part. This will be on Sunday 2nd February after the 10.00am Mass

White Flower Appeal
The annual White flower appeal for the Society for the Protection of Unborn Child will be on the weekend of 25/26th January .

The Week of Prayers for Christian Unity
The annual week of prayer for Christian Unity starts this Friday 17th  January and lasts until the 25th. As in past years there will be a  ‘Pulpit Swap’ taking place between the various Churches. This year we will welcome Christopher Million one of the pastors of Bedlington Christian Fellowship who will preach at the 10.00am Mass on Sunday 19th  January. The Colliery Methodist Church in Bedlington Station have drawn the short straw and will have me preaching at their 6.00pm service  on the 19th of January
