Pentecost
Today we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we are brought into the intimate love of the Father and the Son, and it is through that spirit that we can be transformed into Christ-like disciples. We pray that as a community and as individuals we are transformed and deepen our union with the Holy Trinity. I would like to give a warm welcome to Fr Tony Rattigan who is supplying this weekend because I am presiding at a wedding in Kent.
St Bede’s Day
Straight after the great feast day of Pentecost we have our parish solemnity the feast of our patron, St Bede. We celebrate a man of great holiness who offered his gifts which included an great intellect for the glory of God and the service of others. St Bede is the only Englishman to be made a Doctor in the Church. Since St Bede is our patron it is important that as many of the parish as possible celebrate Mass on our parish feast day.
Mass for our St Bede will be at 11.00 am on Bank Holiday Monday and afterwards there will be an “open Presbytery and garden” for people to bring food and drink so that we can have an informal celebration for St Bede, and our parish community, throughout the day. Weather permitting we will have a barbecue in the garden so people can bring food for the barbecue if they so wish. I sincerely hope and pray that this will be a joyful celebration for our parish.
Confirmations
We continue to pray for our six candidates who will be confirmed on Friday 5th June at 6.30 pm. I would encourage as many of you as possible to come to Mass. There is a list in the porch for people to contribute food for the reception after Mass. Candidates please note there will be a rehearsal on Tuesday 2nd June at 7.00 pm.
