Ascension Day
We celebrate the great feast of the Ascension this weekend.  It is a celebration of hope. Christ has gone, we too hope to share in his victory over sin and death.  This feast also marks the beginning of the time of preparation for Pentecost and we ask to be open to the power of the Holy Spirit in our communities and in our lives.
St Bede’s Day
St Bede’s day is 25th May.  This year the day falls on the bank holiday at the end of May, therefore, Mass will be at 11.00 am to celebrate our patron and then there will be an “open Presbytery and garden” for people to bring food and drink so that we can have an informal celebration for St Bede, and our parish community, during the day.  Weather permitting we will have a barbecue in the garden so people can bring food for the barbecue if they so wish.  Please do all you can to ensure this is a joyful celebration for our parish.
Confirmations
The next session will be on Thursday at 7.45 pm .  Please pray for our six candidates as they prepare for their confirmation on 5th June.
Christ in the World
The next meeting will be Friday 12th June.  The group agreed that we would reflect from a faith perspective of  ‘Making a noise for Bedlington’.

Journey of Faith
As was the case last year we shall have a small number of meetings with those who were received into the church for them to reflect on their experience of being a member of our parish community.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday 3rd June at 6.30pm
General  Election
Let us pray for our new government and for the new House of Commons.  We pray that they will work for the common good throughout our nation.

Inside & Out  -  People and Prisons
At the final session last week it was agreed that we would pray for what the Holy Spirit may be showing us in how we respond to those inside and outside prison.  There will be a meeting at the Coffin Chapel on Wednesday 3rd June at 7.30 pm to pray, reflect and discuss.
Baptisms
The next baptismal classes will be on 11th and 18th June, with baptisms on 27th and 28th June.  Please contact me if you want your child baptised for that weekend. As soon as possible.

Second and Retiring Collections
· A second collection will be taken for World Communications Day. Please use the white envelopes from your planned giving box if you wish to gift aid your donation.
· A retiring collection today is for sick and retired priests.  The fund will close today.
· An emergency retiring collection for CAFOD (Nepal) is also taken today and will be open until the end of the month.
Moving Forward Together in Hope  -  (MFTH)
I hope those who saw the DVD presentation last weekend found it helpful and informative. The questionnaire will be sent out after Pentecost so I propose an open meeting of the parish at 7.00 pm on Thursday 28th May to explore as to how as a parish we will  make our response to  the questionnaire.  It will be available on online when published.
Pastoral Care for the Sick and Elderly
If any special ministers are willing to take holy communion to the sick and housebound please let me know.  Also if you are aware of any Catholics who are housebound whom you think would like to have a visit from myself please let me know.

Corpus Christi procession in honour of the Blessed Sacrament
There will be Exposition in St Cuthbert’s Chapel, Ushaw College on Sunday 7th June at 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm followed by procession at 3.00 pm.  There will be opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation during exposition.  Please bring a packed tea.  Please see poster in Narthex.
